India has made history by winning seven medals at the 10th International Abilympics, one of the world’s largest competitions featuring people with disabilities, which concluded in Metz, France, on March 25, 2023.
The event aims to showcase professional talent among people with disabilities and provide them with opportunities to enhance their vocational skills to achieve economic independence.
The seven medals, including one gold, two silver, three bronze, and one excellence award, were won by the 13-member Indian team in 12 competitions around various areas of business such as information and communication technology, crafts, hospitality, services, and industry.
The Indian team was led by Dr. Jitender Aggarwal, secretary general of the National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI) and founder of the Sarthak Educational Trust.
The event saw more than 400 talents from around the world competing in skills contests across 10 categories. First held in Tokyo in 1981, the Abilympics is held every four years. The vocational skills competition was specifically designed for people with disabilities to inspire them and showcase their unique talents.
