RI Secretary General Venus Ilagan was recently invited to participate in a study run by the Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP), a collaborative think tank on disability policy for the ASEAN region.
The purpose of this project, funded by The Nippon Foundation, is to better understand the factors that enhance or limit the participation of persons with disabilities in the United Nations system and broader global governance processes.
Ms. Ilagan provided many insights to the study team, tapping into her three decades of work in the disabilities field. RI has a long history of involvement with various UN agencies, and as an RI expert with a disability, Ms. Ilagan has broad personal and professional experience related to the participation of persons with disabilities in global governance.
Preliminary findings from this research study will be the centerpiece of the Side Event “Participation of Persons with Disabilities in the UN System and Broader Global Governance Processes” at the Eighth Conference of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP8), organized by The Nippon Foundation and co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Japan and Ecuador, International Disability Alliance, Disabled People’s International, IDPP, and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
